Hotspots: Tinner and Macaron

Have you ever been to Amsterdam? The capital of the Netherlands, also known as Mokum in Amsterdam dialect, is located in North Holland province. So I went to the west last weekend because of an invitation of an event from Mason Garments in de Bijenkorf. The only thing I knew was that it was about an exclusive personalized event. So I was like: Why not?

Once arrived at de Bijenkorf, I had to go to the 3rd floor and I walked to the shoe department. There was a big table where a visual artist from Alpha Inkt de Mason Garments was drawing shoes for customers. I have to give him credits, because he has done it very creatively. Although I had expected more from the event and finally I went away, because I have no shoes from Mason Garments. The design is super beautiful and definitely suits my style, but they’re unfortunately so pricey that my wallet won’t allow to buy it.

To still make my day, I felt like to have a lunch. I grabbed my cell phone and googled to find nice bistros. I found Tinner that is located in the centre of the city. Navigation on and go!

Google: “Rokin: Destination reached”. In this place are 2 restaurants established; Tinner and Terpentijn. From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. you can order something delicious from the Tinner menu and after 4 a.m. from the Terpentijn menu. Terpentijn is perfect for diner, street food or a good drink. Reportedly, the homemade ice tea is a recommendation.

With terpentijn, Dutch for turpentine, you can dilute. Thinner works on the other hand a bit more aggressive and because by far you get thinner from the dishes on the menu, the name Tinner was born.

The restaurant is super cozy furnished. You could sit inside and outside as well. From the Tinner menu, I ordered the salmon salad that I moreover found delicious! But if you’re like me don’t like capers, I would tell them in advance, because oh my, they were so big! Besides my salmon salad, I enjoyed my juicy pineapple.

After lunch, I went to Macaron, because I felt like a dessert at some earlier time.

From Tinner, I took line 16 to Macaron that is located in Amsterdam South. The founder of this pastry boutique is Ruben Jan Adriaan and he has been working for already 15 years as a pastry chef all around the world, also in ‘Oud Sluit’, a starred restaurant. How awesome is that?

I saw so many tasty and colourful macarons in the showcase, pies in perfect style and attractive eclairs. Really precision work! I could choose the flavours: coconut, grapefruit, chocolate, walnut and many more. After pondering for a long time, I finally chose 7 different macarons for €15.

When I was sitting in the train on my way back, I enjoyed the macarons and the taste and structure are very soft. That made it melt on my tongue YUMMY.

What do you think of these hotspots 🙂

Great post! I visited Amsterdam a few years ago and I really loved the city, it was busy and full of interesting things to do, and at the same time surprisingly quiet.
